About
Barbara Sher was an American author, career counselor, and motivational teacher. Often called the “godmother of life coaching” she was known for her practical and deeply human approach to helping people discover what they want and to build lives around their passions.
Sher developed widely used tools such as Success Teams, small peer-support groups designed to help individuals stay accountable to their goals, and introduced the concept of Scanner personalities—people with many interests who thrive on variety rather than a single career path. Through her work, she challenged traditional ideas of success and encouraged more flexible, self-directed ways of living and working.
She authored seven bestselling books, which have been translated into multiple languages and continue to influence readers worldwide. Sher also shared her ideas through workshops and media appearances, including on The Oprah Winfrey Show and CNN. Her TEDx Talk has over 6 million views.
Her legacy lives on in coaching and creative practices that value curiosity, community, and non-linear paths.
